What you can do

Budgets, bills, goals and debt payoff in one household budget app

Zero-based envelope budgets

Give every dollar a job each month. Unspent money rolls over, and “copy last month” sets up the next one in a click.

Bills calendar

See what’s due and overdue on one calendar, mark bills paid and get a heads-up a few days early.

Subscription tracker

See every streaming service, app and membership with its true yearly cost, and when free trials turn into charges.

Savings goals

Put a target and a date on each goal and see how much to set aside every month.

Debt payoff planner

Compare snowball and avalanche plans and see your debt-free date and the interest you’ll save.

Household members

Tag accounts, spending, bills and goals as mine, yours or ours, and see who spent what.

Tax-time summary

Tag deductible spending all year, then print one tidy PDF for you or your tax preparer (Family plan).

Import and export

Import your bank’s CSV, OFX, QFX or QBO files. Export to Excel, QuickBooks, Quicken, PDF or a full backup.

How it works

Up and running in three steps

  1. 1

    Start your free trial

Create your vault with just an email and password. Add your household members and pick a look you like.

  2. 2

    Add your accounts

Add checking, savings, cards and loans, then import the statement files from your bank or type a few transactions in.

  3. 3

    Plan and relax

Set a budget, line up your bills and goals, and check in for a few minutes a week. HomeVault does the math.

Zero-based envelope budgeting, month by month

Ready to Assign, rollover and “copy last month”

Start each month with the money you have and give every dollar a category until “Ready to Assign” reaches zero. Each envelope shows what’s spent and what’s left, unspent money can roll over, and next month starts from last month’s plan.

Bills calendar and subscription tracker

Due and overdue reminders, autopay flags and a calendar feed

Rent, power, phone, insurance and car payments all land on one calendar with due and overdue reminders. Flag the ones on autopay, add the .ics feed to your phone’s calendar, and spot forgotten subscriptions and free trials before they renew.

Family adding to a savings goal they track in their family budget app

Savings goals, net worth and a 90-day cash-flow forecast

See where you’re headed, not just where you’ve been

Track each savings goal with a progress ring and the amount needed per month. Watch your net worth over 6, 12 or 24 months, and look 90 days ahead to see whether upcoming bills and paychecks leave you in the clear.

Couple sorting receipts and tax papers with a tax-time summary from their household budget

Tax-time summary for your preparer (Family plan)

No more shoebox of receipts

Charitable gifts, medical costs, mortgage interest, property tax, childcare and education are tagged as you go, along with HSA activity. At tax time, print one summary PDF for you or your preparer. It organizes your records; it is not tax advice.

A family budget app built for “mine, yours, ours”

Tag accounts, bills and goals by household member

Add your partner and kids as household members. Tag accounts, transactions, bills, subscriptions and goals to each person, and see spending by member. Pro includes 4 members; Family includes up to 10.

Debt payoff planner: snowball vs. avalanche

See your debt-free date

Compare paying the smallest balance first (snowball) with the highest interest rate first (avalanche), or minimums only. See a payoff date for every debt, the months and interest you save, and a balance-over-time chart.

Import your bank files, export anywhere

CSV, OFX, QFX and QBO in. QuickBooks, Quicken, Xero, Excel and PDF out

HomeVault doesn’t connect to your bank and never asks for your bank password. Download the file your bank provides and import it: duplicates are skipped and your rules categorize transactions for you.

Private and secure by design

Your household’s data stays yours

Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes, every record is private to your household, and sign-in attempts are rate-limited. No ads, and you can export everything or delete your account at any time.

A look inside

Clear screens that answer “are we okay this month?”

Budget at a glance

Every category shows what’s spent and what’s left, with a warning before you go over.

Bills that never sneak up

See what’s due this week and mark it paid — the transaction is recorded for you.

Goals you can watch grow

Know exactly how much to set aside each month to hit every goal on time.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is a zero-based budgeting app?

It is an app where you give every dollar of income a job until “Ready to Assign” reaches zero. HomeVault does this with monthly envelopes, per-category rollover and “copy last month”.

Is HomeVault free?

No. There is no free plan. Every account starts with a 15-day free trial of every feature, with no card needed. After that, Pro is $7.99/month ($69/year) and Family is $10.99/month ($99/year).

What happens when my free trial ends?

If you choose Pro or Family, nothing changes. If you don’t, your account becomes export-only: you can still sign in and download all your data (CSV, Excel, QuickBooks, Quicken, OFX, PDF and a full backup), but nothing else works. 7 days later the account and all its data are permanently deleted. The deletion date is shown in the app.

Can my partner and I share one budget?

Yes. Household members can tag accounts, transactions, bills and goals as mine, yours or ours. Pro includes 4 members; the Family plan supports up to 10 members and includes a spending-by-member report.

Does HomeVault connect directly to my bank?

No. HomeVault does not use automatic bank sync, so it never asks for your bank password. You import the CSV, OFX, QFX or QBO files your bank provides. Duplicates are detected and your rules categorize transactions automatically.

What is the difference between the debt snowball and debt avalanche methods?

Snowball pays off the smallest balance first. Avalanche pays off the highest interest rate first. HomeVault’s debt payoff planner compares both and shows payoff dates and the interest saved.

Can I export my budget to QuickBooks, Quicken or Excel?

Yes. HomeVault exports QBO and CSV for QuickBooks Online, IIF for QuickBooks Desktop, QFX for Quicken, OFX for Xero, and Excel, PDF and JSON.

Does HomeVault help with taxes?

The Family plan’s tax-time summary totals charitable gifts, medical costs, mortgage interest, property tax, childcare, education and other categories, and exports a PDF for your tax preparer. It is not tax advice.

Can I cancel any time?

Yes, online in one click on the Plan & billing page. You keep your plan until the end of the period you paid for and are not charged again.

Can I use HomeVault on my phone?

Yes. HomeVault is a web app that works in any modern browser, and its layout adjusts down to phone-sized screens. There is nothing to install.
