Privacy Policy
Streetwise Software Online ("we", "us") runs ShopTorque, an online management and accounting app for auto repair shops built by Streetwise Software Online · SWSO. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit this site or use the app, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have.
The short version
- We collect only what we need to run your account and keep it secure.
- Your financial records are yours. We use them only to provide ShopTorque to you.
- We never sell your information, never share it for advertising, and never use it to train AI models.
- You can export everything and delete your account yourself, at any time, from inside the app.
Who is responsible
Streetwise Software Online is responsible for the account, billing and website information described here. The shop records you keep in ShopTorque belong to you. When they contain information about other people, such as your customers, their vehicles, your technicians and vendors, you decide what goes in and we process it only on your instructions, to provide the app to you.
What we collect
- Account details. Your name, email address and password. Passwords are stored only as a one-way hash, so nobody (including us) can read them. We also keep your plan, trial dates, display preferences (color theme and zoom), the date you created your account and the date and version of the Terms you agreed to.
- The records you enter or import. Shop settings (name, address, license number, rates, taxes, fees and document text), customer records (names, company, phone numbers, email and address), vehicles (VIN, plate, year, make, model and mileage), estimates, repair orders, invoices, payments, digital inspections, appointments, parts inventory, vendors, purchase orders, cores, warranty claims, technicians (names, roles, pay type and rate, certifications) and their time-clock punches, the chart of accounts, imported bank transactions and, if you enter them, the bank routing and account numbers written into your QuickBooks and Quicken export files. This information can be sensitive, and we treat all of it as confidential.
- Billing details. Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. We keep the Stripe customer and subscription reference numbers, your plan, the subscription status and a record of your agreement to automatic renewal (date and time, plan, price, the exact terms shown and your IP address).
- Technical and security records. Our web server briefly records each request (IP address, browser type, page and time). Sign-in attempts are recorded with the email and network address used, only to slow down password guessing, and are cleared out after about a day.
- One cookie. A strictly necessary session cookie keeps you signed in and protects forms from forgery. See our Cookie Policy.
- VIN decoding, only when you ask. When you press "Decode" next to a VIN, your browser sends that VIN, and nothing else from ShopTorque, directly to the free vPIC service of the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to look up the year, make and model.
We do not collect information from data brokers, social networks or advertising networks, and the app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking scripts.
How we use it
- To create and run your account and provide the features of ShopTorque you use.
- To keep the service secure: sign-in protection, preventing fraud and abuse, investigating problems.
- To bill paid plans through Stripe and keep the records that tax and consumer laws require.
- To contact you about your account: security notices, receipts, renewal reminders, price changes and changes to these policies. We do not send marketing email unless you separately ask for it.
- To answer you when you contact us for help.
We do not sell your personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral (targeted) advertising, profile you, or make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers that help us run ShopTorque, only for that job and under contract, or when the law requires it:
- Stripe, Inc. processes subscription payments. Stripe receives your email address and the payment details you type into Stripe Checkout; its own privacy policy applies to that information.
- Our web hosting provider stores the database and runs the servers, located in the United States.
- Our email provider delivers emails we send to you about your account.
- NHTSA (U.S. Department of Transportation) receives a VIN only when you press "Decode"; a VIN on its own does not identify the owner.
We may also disclose information if required by law or a valid legal order, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a sale or merger of the business (the buyer would have to honor this policy).
How long we keep it
- Your account and records: for as long as your account is open. If a trial ends without a paid plan, or a cancelled or unpaid subscription ends, the account becomes export-only for 7 days so you can download your data; after that the account and every record in it are permanently erased from the live database.
- When you delete your account: your login and every record in it are erased from the live database straight away. Copies in server backups are overwritten within 30 days.
- Billing and renewal-consent records: kept for as long as tax and consumer-protection laws require, normally up to 7 years, even after you delete your account.
- Server logs: normally no more than 90 days. Sign-in attempt records: about a day.
Your data, your control
- Export: Import & export downloads your records as CSV, Excel, PDF and a complete JSON backup at any time on every plan, and during the 7-day export-only period after a trial or subscription ends (when every format is available); QuickBooks (IIF, QBO), Quicken (QFX) and OFX files are included with Business.
- Correct: edit your profile and records directly in the app.
- Delete: Settings → Delete my account permanently erases your login and every record in your shop. Settings → Clear all shop data erases the records but keeps your login and settings. Deleting your account also cancels any paid subscription.
- Ask us: for a copy of what we hold, or for help with any of the above, email [support email].
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA, as amended by the CPRA), the Colorado Privacy Act and similar laws in other states give you the right to:
- know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, and get a copy of it in a portable format;
- correct inaccurate information;
- delete your information;
- opt out of the sale or sharing of your information, targeted advertising and profiling (we do none of these);
- limit the use of sensitive information (we use your sign-in details and financial records only to provide the service you asked for);
- not be treated differently for using any of these rights.
These laws apply only to businesses above certain size thresholds, and Streetwise Software Online may fall below them. We honor these rights for every user anyway. To make a request, use the tools inside the app or email [support email]. We will confirm your identity (normally by asking you to write from your account email) and answer within 45 days; if we need more time we will tell you, and we may extend once by another 45 days. An authorized agent may ask on your behalf with your signed permission.
Appeals. If we turn down a request, reply to our answer to ask us to reconsider. We will answer the appeal within 45 days. If you are still unhappy, you can contact your state Attorney General (in Colorado, coag.gov).
Global Privacy Control. We treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal from your browser as a request to opt out of the sale and sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising. Because we do none of those things, the app works the same either way. Your browser is not sending a Global Privacy Control signal right now.
Children
ShopTorque is meant for adults. You must be at least 18 to create an account, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We protect your information with the measures described on our Security page. No online service can promise perfect security. If a breach affecting your personal information happens, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect and update the effective date at the top of this page.
