Who We Are

Compassion grew into a place of connection.

Learn how one act of refuge became a sanctuary where animals and families can heal together.

Our story

Holsteins ’n Horses – Our Story It began with one small steer — a baby, only three months old — whose life I wanted to save from slaughter. My son asked if we could bring him home, and that’s how Little Samson became my very first bottle‑fed calf. I thought I was saving his life. But as the years passed, I realized Samson was quietly saving mine in return. When Samson was boarded elsewhere, his herd was suddenly taken to the sale barn in a single day. His entire world stopped. He was left standing alone, confused and devastated. In that moment, I knew compassion had to prevail. I made a vow: Samson would never again lose his family. He would have a herd of his own — one that would stay with him for life. That promise became a mission. I purchased land, and from that vow Holsteins ’n Horses was born. Today, every animal here is safe. Every animal here is loved. None will ever see slaughter. They live out their lives with dignity, care, and the peace they deserve. Our sanctuary exists to give farm animals in need a true haven — a place where they can naturally thrive. And we are here not only for the animals, but for children of all ages, including developmentally disabled adults, who find comfort, joy, and connection in being with them. “If we can care for the lowly cow, surely we can all care for one another.” Come visit — the lemonade is on us. Holsteins ’n Horses: where all lives matter.
